Picture Perfect for Prom

We all know the feeling when a big event is coming up. You have a to-do list as long as your arm, a pimple is forming prominently on your chin and worst of all you have no idea what to wear. Sound familiar? It’s a weird whirlwind of excitement and stress and you’re not sure where to start. We all wish someone was there to wave a magic wand and do the hard work for us. Are prom fairies a thing? We wish.

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get these things done yourself, but don’t worry it can be really fun. Whatever your style or budget there are a few key things to help you on your way to prom perfection.

The inspiration board

Pull together anything and everything that you have loved this fashion season. It could be a new hairstyle you’d like to try or a funky lipstick tone you’ve never had the guts to buy. We’re all guilty of keeping a secret stash of Instagram screenshots of beautiful hairdos and snazzy nail art we wish we could try out. Now is your chance to dig them out and get a clear vision of what you want to achieve. The inspiration board will be your best friend when it comes to deciding the details.

Find ‘the one’

Prom dress shopping is almost as serious as wedding dress shopping, so you need to spend some time on this one. There are so many amazing new styles trending at the moment, like mermaid prom dresses. Long, flowing dresses that make us feel like we’ve just stepped out of a Disney movie? Yes please. Do your research online and get together with your friends to discuss your favorite styles. Your friends will be honest about what looks good on you and you can also avoid turning up wearing the the same dress as your bestie. Disaster avoided!

Let your hair down

Spend an evening experimenting with your hair. Normally wear your hair down? Tie it up. Have naturally poker straight hair? Give those curlers a bash. Try that sparkly clip that has been living in your drawer for the past year. It probably looks really cute and you know it. You’ll be surprised at what you can achieve with a few hours in front of the mirror and some eco-friendly hair products. Don’t be afraid to try something new, sometimes a style you least expect turns out to be your winning red carpet look.

Relax and Pamper

This is the part of prom preparation you should really enjoy. Book yourself in for a facial, a massage or a manicure. Anything to make you feel like the prom queen you are. Your prom pictures are going to stick around for a very long time, so make sure you don’t miss this step. You’re bound to be exhausted after all of the hard work, so make sure you get your beauty sleep so you’re bright-eyed and glowing on your special day.
